- Description
- While we are being urged to do more with less, we are gaining an understanding of the costs of long working hours. Not enough sleep and many hours of sitting, not having time to prepare food from fresh ingredients, and getting too little exercise are all consequences of long working hours. Other consequences include stress, depression, work injuries, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Long working hours also place pressure on family relationships, increasing marital disharmony, parent/child conflicts, and reduced parental supervision. Research has shown also that we are surviving on less sleep, and that the cumulative effects of this can be harmful to health.
